Many of us love cities for their personality, cultural life, and entertainment. However, there are a lot of gorgeous looking villages in the world that will make your heart skip a beat with their magnificent beauty. So, why don’t we take a look at some of them right now?
Bilbury, England
Built in the 14th century, those stone houses along Arlington Road are the most photographed objects in this picturesque village. The Bilbury village is located in the Cotswold Hills area, a range of hills in the counties of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. The writer William Morris once called it “the most beautiful village in England” and I couldn’t agree more. Gorgeous place indeed!
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
If it’s your first time in Switzerland, forget about Zurich and other mainstream tourist attractions and go straight to this adorable village in the southern part of the country. Lauterbrunnen is an old, super tiny yet super adorable village in a close proximity to Europe’s most famous glaciers such as the Tschingelhorn and the Rottal Gletscher.
Shirakawa, Japan
Located not far from the city of Takayama, this lovely Japanese village is on the list of the heritage of UNESCO. Shirakawa village is literally the snowiest part of Japan. The village is located in an area that is almost completely covered with dense woods. Most of its population lives in the valley of the picturesque Sokawa River. When covered in snow, the roofs of the houses resemble hands folded in prayer. Also, the unique design of the roofs prevents the snow from settling on top of the houses. Fun fact: warm attics are used for breeding silkworms in winter.
Goreme, Turkey
This super unique village is also on the list of national heritage of UNESCO. What makes this village in Turkey so unique? The whole territory of the village is a National park. Needless to say that the village got so famous among tourists and – surprise, surprise – geologists thanks to its unusual rock formations. I’m telling you, if I ever get a chance to go visit Turkey, this is the place I wanna see.
Chimayo, New Mexico, United States
I don’t know why, but this village in New Mexico kinda resembles me of Flintstones. Maybe it’s because of the mud huts, but whatever the reason is this mysterious village is home to the Lourdes of North America. The church made of mud that is known to have healing powers.
Cua Van, Vietnam
Cua Van village in Vietnam is also known as “floating village” and makes one of the four villages in Ha Long Bay. Cua Van’s population number over 700 people who live in floating houses and make their living partly from fishing and tourism.
Gasadalur, Faroe Islands
It’s not that easy to get to this picturesque village on Faroe Islands, but if you ever wondered what it’s like living in one of the most remote places on Earth, visit Gasadalur. There’s only 18 people living in the village. This is how remote the village is! The main attraction is obviously the iconic Mulafossur Waterfall, a true natural masterpiece that makes people choke up on the beauty of it.
Hallstatt, Austria
This village is arguably the most beautiful one in Austria and in pretty much all in Europe. People from all over the world come here to enjoy the best Alpine views. Hoher Dachstein, a karstic Austrian mountain, Salzkammergut, salt mines, Treppe ins Nichts aka stairway to nothingness Dachstein, and many other iconic spots to contemplate the true beauty of Alps.
